The POCO F4 5G and F3 Smartphones: A Comparison

POCO is a brand of Xiaomi and specializes in creating affordable, mid-range and high-end smartphones with excellent features and design. The two latest offerings, the POCO F4 5G and the F3 are no exception. Their release dates are June 2022 and March 2021 respectively, with the F3 being the high-end device and the F4 being the mid-range option.

Design and Materials

Both devices have a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with an FHD+ resolution of 1080x2400, 120Hz refresh rate and 1300 cd/m2 peak brightness with a 5000000:1 contrast ratio as well as supporting HDR10+. The F4 5G has an 86.3% usable surface, while the F3 offers 85.4%. Both have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, however the F4 5G is made from plastic, while the F3 is made from glass, metal and plastic with a splash resistant design. They both have stereo speakers and support Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos.

Hardware

The POCO F4 5G and F3 both use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 (SM8250-AC) 7nm processor, however they differ in RAM, storage and AnTuTu v9 scores. The F4 5G offers 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB LPDDR5 RAM with 128GB and 256GB UFS Storage 3.1. It has a score of 715000 on AnTuTu, while the F3 has 6GB and 8GB LPDDR5 RAM options with the same storage, but with a lower AnTuTu score of 714008. The F4 5G also offers a 3112mm² liquid cooled VC heat dissipation area and fingerprint side security, while the F3 has X-axis linear motors and the same security features as the F4 5G.

Camera

The F4 5G has a triple camera setup with a 64MP standard lens, 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, and a 2MP macro lens. It also has Sony IMX596 selfie camera and 4K video recording with optical image stabilization, a 6P lens and a 119° FOV. The F3 also has a triple camera setup, but with a 48MP standard lens, an 8MP ultra wide-angle + macro lens and a 5MP macro lens. It also has a Samsung S5K3T2 selfie camera and it can record 4K videos with a 119° FOV.

Connectivity and Battery

Both the POCO F4 5G and F3 offer Bluetooth 5.2 and 5.1, dual SIM, NFC, WiFi 6 (802.11ax), GPS (L1+L5), and infrared. The F4 5G has a 4500mAh battery with a fast charge of 67W while the F3 has 4520mAh with a 33W fast charge.

Conclusion

The POCO F4 5G is a mid-range device with excellent features, design, and hardware, while the F3 is the higher-end device with similar features, but improved hardware. Both offer a great combination of specs, design, and materials at reasonable prices and are certainly devices worth considering.
