  • I dont get why people are still praising this phone.

It's slow, unstable, and the battery is horrible. I have a 6 hour school day, get home in between the day, and charge it for around 30 minutes. It dies on me an hour or so later. Always dies around 25% instead of giving an actual percentage. My old S7 outlived this by a mile and charged lightning fast, I could charge it 30%+ in 30 minutes.

    Pros
    • Cheap?

    Cons

    • Mediocre everything

  • Decent by itself, much better with a ROM

Borrowed my friend's S7 for a week and it's an amazing phone. Despite it being shattered on the back & cracked on the front it barely bothered me (mostly due to it having a skin) but the cracks are barely visible at all. Samsung Experience is a bit bloated, so if you want a speedier phone (and don't care too much about camera quality) I'd recommend giving LineageOS (or similar) a go. Going from an 8+ to this I noticed no difference in speed while running LOS 15.

    Pros
    • Inexpensive
    • Fast (especially with a ROM)
    Cons
    • Minimum brightness is impossible to see in the sun
    • Samsung Experience/TouchWiz is a bit bloated

  • It’s good for an iPhone, I guess.

Impulse buy, had an iPhone 4 and a 5c before this and was getting tired of iOS, and jumped to an S5. Loved that phone. Was switching plans and contracted this because I thought it’d be cool for AirDrop and iMessage.

iMessage is extremely overrated and if you have an app like Telegram it’s easily obsolete. AirDrop is fun but it’s quite gimmicky, to me at least.

Has an LCD screen with a relatively low resolution compared to even its cheapest android counterparts, which is quite disappointing.

Build is EXTREMELY prone to scratches, at least on the screen. It looks horrible after ~6 months of owning this phone. I never did anything to purposefully scratched it, I simply put it facedown on tables, but now it’s scratched as HELL. Some cut deep too, it’s super annoying and wrecks the resale value (which I’m trying to sell it now.)

  • A good phone, but I'd recommend something newer.

I purchased this phone some time ago, and it's been pretty decent. Doesn't run demanding games outstandingly, due to it's old SOC (Snapdragon 801 from 2014). It's interface is quite skinned, which is why I installed Lineage on it. Battery was bad for me but this could be due to battery deterioration, which is convienently easily replaceable on this phone. If you’re buying a phone in 2019 and you’re thinking of this I’d recommend an SE or chip in some extra to get, say, an S7. It’d last you much longer.

    Pros
    • Comfy
    • Nice camera
    • Still runs alright.
    • Beautiful screen.
    Cons
    • Old 2014 CPU (32-bit)

  • Samsung’s horrible for budget phones

Cheap and cheap feeling. When I had my S5 I had it in to get its speakers repaired and was given this one in the meantime. Feels much cheaper, is slippery, and is made of plastic. Not even good plastic! Operation is incredibly sluggish, feels just like any other Samsung budget phone (not quite as bad as the EARLY ones though.) Stay away from Samsung as a budget brand, either buy used or Xiaomi.

  • A good phone, but there are alternatives.

This was my main phone for a while, and it was a huge upgrade from my iOS 7-bearing iPhone 4. It runs well even today, but if you're looking for a used iPhone I'd recommend the newer 5s, or even the SE.

    Pros
    • Still smooth today
    • Seems a bit durable.
    Cons
    • Poor speaker placement
    • Relatively cheap materials

  • It was an alright phone, when it was relevant.

After it received the update to iOS 7, Phone's been very slow in everyday use. But back when I first got it, it was quite good. App compatibility's been dwindling for iOS 7, however, so I'd give this one a pass, unless you want to use it for basic phone use, like for calling & texting.

    Pros
    • Still looks nice today
    Cons
    • Fast forward to today and it's quite slugglish.

  • If for any reason you come across this phone, do NOT purchase it.

It's an old Android budget phone from 2012, and it shows. Runs a very old version of android with little compatibility with most apps, runs horrendously slow, ugly UI, bad battery life, pretty much infinite problems with this one. It even stutters while playing MP3s!!!

    Pros
    • It feels okay?
    Cons
    • Everything.
