About this comparison

The Apple iPhone 12 & Samsung Galaxy A54 5G: Comparing Two of the Best Smartphones on the Market

Smartphone technology is constantly evolving and with each new release, consumers are presented with innovative features designed to make their lives easier. Two of the most hotly anticipated models of 2020 and beyond are Apple’s iconic iPhone 12 and Samsung’s all-new mid-range smartphone, the Galaxy A54 5G. The latest models of these phones feature cutting-edge hardware and design, offering an array of features perfect for any user.

Design and Materials

Apple’s iPhone 12 series boasts a sleek aluminum frame, with 6.1-inch OLED display and resolution of 1170x2532 (FHD+). The phone has a usable surface area of 86.7%, meaning there’s more screen real-estate than ever before. The phone also features stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus support for superior audio quality.

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G, while not as high-end as the iPhone, still looks and feels like a luxury device. The phone features a robust plastic and glass construction and with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display and resolution of 1080x2340 (FHD+) at a refresh rate of 120 Hz, you’ll enjoy clear and vibrant colors no matter what you’re viewing. The A54 5G also has stereo speakers and Vision Booster technology for enhanced visuals.

Hardware

The iPhone 12 series comes equipped with Apple’s ultra-powerful A14 Bionic chip which runs on a 5nm process. Coupled with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and storage options of 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB, this is one of the most powerful phones on the market. Its AnTuTu testing score of 721535 highlights just how powerful of a phone it really is.

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G packs the Exynos 1380 chipset running on a 5nm process and has 8GB or 6GB of RAM as well as 256GB or 128GB of internal storage. It’s not quite as capable as the iPhone 12 in terms of pure power, but its AnTuTu testing score of 507000 is still impressive. The A54 5G also has a fingerprint sensor embedded into the display for added security.

Cameras

The iPhone 12 features two cameras, with a standard Sony IMX372 12MP shooter and an ultra-wide angle lens with a 12MP sensor and f/2.4 aperture. The phone also includes optical image stabilization (OIS) and supports 4K video recording at 60fps with all the bells and whistles such as five-element lens, seven-element lens, night mode, cinemascope video stabilization, and more.

The A54 5G has an impressive triple camera setup, featuring a 50MP Sony IMX766 main shooter, 13MP Samsung S5K3L6 ultrawide and 5MP macro lenses. It has a 32MP front-facing selfie camera and the same range of bells and whistles as the iPhone, including OIS and 4K video recording.

Connectivity and Battery

Both phones offer similar levels of connectivity, with Bluetooth 5.1 or 5.3, WiFi 6, and Dual SIM capabilities. The iPhone 12 comes with an NFC chip and eSIM support, while the A54 5G only has NFC.

In terms of battery life, the iPhone 12 comes with a 2815mAh battery that can be charged up to 20W via lightning cable. It also supports wireless charging. The A54 5G has a massive 5000mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging.

Conclusion

Both the iPhone 12 and the A54 5G are feature-packed smartphones with excellent design and hardware specifications. The iPhone 12 is the more high-end device with a superior processor, OLED display, and better camera capabilities. The A54 5G is the cheaper option, but still offers an excellent array of features perfect for users on a budget.
