About this comparison

The Fight for 5G Mid-Range Smartphones: Samsung Galaxy A53 and A54

The mid-range phone market has become increasingly competitive in recent years. In order to stand out from the crowd, phone manufacturers have pushed the boundaries of technology. Samsung is one of the biggest players in this arena, and their latest 5G capable mid-range offerings — the Galaxy A53 and A54 — demonstrate that they are ready to take the fight head on.

Design & Materials

The Galaxy A53 and A54 both share a similar design language with subtle differences between them. Starting with the A53, it has a 6.5” Super AMOLED screen that features a resolution of 1080x2400 (FHD+) and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a 420 cd/m² brightness rating and a million-to-one contrast ratio. The usable surface area is 84.5% and the display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The A54 comes equipped with a 6.4” Super AMOLED screen with similar specs, but with a slightly lower 82.4% usable surface area. Both devices also feature stereo speakers for an immersive audio experience, as well as Dolby Atmos for a truly cinema-like feel. In terms of materials, both phones have a plastic frame and glass back, giving it a premium feel.

Hardware

When it comes to hardware, the Galaxy A53 and A54 offer some impressive specs. The A53 is powered by the Samsung Exynos 1280 processor, while the A54 is equipped with the Exynos 1380. Both processors are based on a 5nm architecture and are backed by either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. When it comes to storage, both phones come with options ranging from 128GB to 256GB, with expansion support through a microSD card. The A53 scored 415448 points on AnTuTu v9 and the A54 achieved 507000 points. For security, both phones feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Camera

When it comes to cameras, the Galaxy A53 and A54 both come with quad and triple rear-camera setups respectively. The A53 features a 64MP main camera, accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP depth sensor and 5MP macro lens. The A54 has a 50MP main camera, bolstered by a 13MP ultra-wide, 5MP macro camera and a 5MP depth sensor. On the front is a 32MP selfie camera on both phones. Both phones can record video up to 4K quality, and feature Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for shaking-free videos.

Connectivity & Battery

In terms of connectivity, both the A53 and A54 are 5G capable. They both feature Dual SIM support, NFC, eSIM, WiFi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.1 (on the A53) and 5.3 (on the A54). The A53 is powered by a 5000mAh battery, while the A54 is equipped with the same capacity. They both support 25W fast charging.

Release Dates

The Samsung Galaxy A53 and A54 both have a projected released date of March 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Conclusion

The Galaxy A53 and A54 are Samsung’s latest offerings in the 5G mid-range phone market and they are sure to make a splash. With their superior design and hardware, as well as their impressive camera setup and 5G capability, the A53 and A54 are a force to be reckoned with. We’ll have to wait until 2022 and 2023 to get our hands on these phones, but they’re sure to be worth the wait.
