About this comparison

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra are two smartphones from Samsung's high-end lineup. Both devices have been released in 2021 for the S21 and 2023 for the S23. Although their release dates are different, the specifications of each device are surprisingly similar.

Design & Materials

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra both have a 6.80-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440x3088 (WQHD+). The S21 has a peak brightness of 1500 cd/m², while the S23 has a maximum brightness of 1100 cd/m². Both models feature Dual Edge display technology and HDR10+ compatibility.

The material used on both devices is aluminium and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. This glass is several times tougher than its predecessor, making the S21 and S23 extremely durable and resistant. The S21 and S23 feature Optical Stabilisation (OIS) for the camera, 4K video, 8K video, second telephoto lens 10x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom, ultra wide angle lens 120º, ultra wide angle video 4K HDR10+ @ 60fps, and ultra wide angle dual pixel autofocus.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity, both devices feature Bluetooth 5.2, dual SIM, NFC, WiFi 6 (802.11ax), and GPS (L1+L5). The S21 only has USB Host 2.0 while the S23 also has USB Host 3.0 and eSIM capability.

Battery

The battery capacity of both phones is 5000mAh. The S21 supports 25W fast charging, and the S23 supports 45W fast charging. Both devices also support wireless charging and reverse charging.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra both have incredibly similar specs and features, despite the differences in release dates.
