Xiaomi 12 Pro vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G: Comparison

The Xiaomi 12 Pro and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G are two of the latest smartphones from Chinese manufacturer, Xiaomi. Both are high-end and mid-range models respectively. With a release date of December 2021 and October 2022 respectively, we take a look at these two new devices to see what they offer users.

Starting with the more advanced Xiaomi 12 Pro, this is a high-end device that boasts some impressive features. It has an AMOLED display of 6.73 inches with a resolution of 1440x3200 (WQHD+), refresh rate of 120 Hz, peak brightness of 1500 cd/m2, and 8000000:1 contrast ratio. It also has a dual edge display and HDR10+ support. The audio quality of this phone is excellent with stereo speakers, Hi-Res Audio, and Dolby Atmos. It’s made of aluminium alloy and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for added protection. The usable surface of the phone is 89.2%. Additionally, there is also a leather version which is 8.66 mm thick and weighs 204g.

The internal hardware of the Xiaomi 12 Pro is equally impressive. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor which is 4nm based. It comes in two RAM variants – 8GB and 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM. There are also two storage variants – 128GB and 256GB of UFS Storage 3.1. The AnTuTu v9 score of this device is 912548. Security features include a Fingerprint Display and for cooling, it has 2900mm² super large VC liquid cooling.

The camera system on the 12 Pro is also one of its main selling points. It has a triple camera setup which includes a Sony IMX707 50.0Mpx f/1.9 CMOS standard lens, a Samsung S5KJN1 50.0Mpx f/2.2 CMOS wide angle lens and a Samsung S5KJN1 50.0Mpx f/1.9 depth sensor for portrait mode. On the front there is a Samsung JD1 32.0Mpx selfie camera. There is OIS, 4K videos and 8K videos as well with 7P lens and ultra wide angle 6P 115º capability. Depth sensors come with 5P lens and 48mm optical zoom 2x feature while 8K video 24fps and 4K video 30 and 60fps also make up the package.

Connectivity on the Xiaomi 12 Pro includes Bluetooth 5.2, Dual SIM, NFC, WiFi 6 (802.11ax), GPS (L1+L5) and Infrared. The battery capacity is 4600mAh with fast charge capability of 120.0W and support for wireless charging and reverse charging.

The second phone we are looking at is the mid-range Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G from Xiaomi. As its name suggests, it does have 5G connectivity. This device has an AMOLED display of 6.67 inches with a resolution of 1080x2400 (FHD+) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The brightness level is 500 cd/m2 (typ) and has a 5000000:1 contrast ratio with HDR10 support. The audio output is handled by stereo speakers, Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos. The device has a glass body with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Usable surface area of this device is 86.3%.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 (MT6877V) processor that is 6nm based. It also comes in two RAM variants – 8GB and 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM. For storage, you get two options – 128GB and 256GB of UFS Storage 2.2. The AnTuTu v9 score of this device is 538000. A Fingerprint side scanner is provided for security. The cooling system consists of a multi-dimensional heat dissipation system, 3000mm² VC heat sink, graphene phase change heat sink and a high thermal conductivity aluminium alloy centre frame.

The triple camera setup on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G consists of a Samsung ISOCELL HPX 200.0Mpx f/1.65 ISOCELL standard lens, a Sony IMX355 8.0Mpx f/2.2 wide angle lens and a GalaxyCore GC02M1 2.0Mpx f/2.4 macro lens. On the front side, there is a 16.0Mpx f/2.45 selfie camera. Other camera features include OIS, 4K videos, 7P lens and ultra wide angle 119º support.

For connectivity, the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G offers Bluetooth 5.2, Dual SIM, NFC, Audio Jack, WiFi 6 (802.11ax) and Infrared. It is fueled by a 5000mAh capacity battery with 120.0W fast charge capability.

Overall, both the Xiaomi 12 Pro and the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G are excellent smartphones. The former is more expensive due to its high-end hardware and features while the latter offers great value for money considering the price.
