Xiaomi Redmi 10C vs Xiaomi Redmi 12C: Comparing Mid-Range Smartphones

The mid-range smartphone market has been rapidly growing in the recent years, and Xiaomi phones have been leading the way. Their popular Redmi series has just released two new phones – the Redmi 10C and the Redmi 12C. In this article, we’re going to take a closer look at these two phones and compare them side-by-side.

Design & Materials

The two phones have a very similar design with one big difference – the shape of their screens. The Redmi 10C comes with an LCD IPS display measuring 6.71 inches, with a resolution of 720x1650 (HD+) and a usable screen surface of 83%. The Redmi 12C is also equipped with an LCD IPS display, but this one measures 6.71 inches as well, boasting a resolution of 720x1650 (HD+), a brightness of 500 cd/m² (typ) and a contrast ratio of 1500:1. It also has a slightly lower usable screen surface of 82.2%. Both phones feature a plastic build.

Hardware

The Redmi 10C sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 (SM6225) processor, which is made using a 6nm manufacturing process. It is accompanied by 4GB or 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM, depending on the model you choose, and 64GB or 128GB of UFS Storage 2.2. It recovered an impressive AnTuTu (v9) score of 248639, and also has a fingerprint sensor at the back.

The Redmi 12C is powered by the MediaTek Helio G85 (MT6769V/CZ) processor, which is manufactured using a 12nm manufacturing process. It comes with 4GB, 6GB or 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB or 128GB of eMMC 5.1 Storage. Its AnTuTu (v9) score is 251300, and sadly it does not feature a fingerprint sensor.

Camera

The Redmi 10C comes with a dual-camera setup that consists of a Samsung S5KJN1 50.0Mpx main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and ISOCELL technology and a depth sensor (Portrait mode) Omnivision OV02B10 with a 2.0Mpx lens and an f/2.4 aperture. On the front, it has a 5.0Mpx selfie shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and CMOS lens.

The Redmi 12C also has a dual-camera setup, but this time it consists of a 50.0Mpx main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and CMOS lens as well as a macro lens with a 2.0Mpx lens and an f/2.4 aperture. There is also a 5.0Mpx selfie shooter, but it’s not clear what type of lens it uses.

Connectivity & Battery

In terms of connectivity, the Redmi 10C has the upper hand. It has Bluetooth 5.0, dual SIM capability, NFC and an audio jack. The Redmi 12C only has Bluetooth 5.1, dual SIM capability and an audio jack. Both phones have a 5000mAh battery and support fast charging, but the Redmi 10C’s fast charger is capable of 18.0W while the Redmi 12C’s can only handle 10.0W. The Redmi 10C also supports reverse charging.

Conclusion

Both the Xiaomi Redmi 10C and the Redmi 12C are great mid-range smartphones and they both offer good value for money. However, the Redmi 10C has a few advantages over its newer sibling, such as a more powerful processor, better connectivity options and higher fast charging capabilities. It also has a better AnTuTu (v9) score and comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back. If you’re in the market for a mid-range phone, then the Redmi 10C is the better choice.
