- It is a camera that happens to be phone
My prime aim was to replace my bulky Nikon reflex camera. Nikon plus battery plus flash and flash battery weigh 2 Kg. This is cumbersome and sometime a nuisance to take photo.
I was looking for a solution, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra met all my requirements. It may sound like a compromise, but it is not. It's better than my Nikon! I, who always ridiculed those taking photos with their cellphones, am advocating now for a change in the paradigm.
Well done Xiaomi!- 9.6

The phone is quite heavy and with such a camera bump, you will be seen. Some people told me it's ugly but I personally don't mind it too much. Especially when I take pictures, that size of the module really pays off. The great strength of the phone is the camera system! Pictures come out looking less "phone like" and more "professional camera like". The slight vignette and high contrast in "Leica Authentic" might not be everyone's choice of style, but you gotta hand it to Xiaomi: It looks like it was really taken by a Leica professional camera.
And for the rest of the phone: The "all liquid" display, with a slight curve on all fours sides looks futuristic and feels nice. The display itself is good looking and bright, even the screen borders are even. However the peak brightness is only possible with HDR content. With normal content in the sun, the screen could be brighter.
The battery is really good: the last week I had consistently two days of battery life.Pros- Awesome pictures in day and night
- Slightly rounded edges on all 4 sides
- Great portrait shots
- Lots of options in the camera app
- Really stable videos, even in default
- Long lasting battery
Cons- Quite heavy
- Peak brightness only for HDR
- Hughe camera bump

Maybe I expected too much from this phone and it wasn't that bad. In terms of ergonomics, it is not very comfortable in hand due to the size of the camera module, it is a little difficult to hold. On the other hand, HyperOS needs to be polished and improved a lot, a lot (a OnePlus 12 is undoubtedly smoother). In essence it looks almost the same as MIUI... And the battery is nothing to write home about, it just complies. What I like the most is the "look" of the photos, you can see the hand of Leica.

Score
- 9.2 Design & Materials
- 9.3 Performance & Hardware
- 9.3 Camera
- 8.8 Connectivity
- 8.2 Battery
In this case, to determine the score we evaluate 5 general aspects:
- Design and screen
- Hardware and performance
- Camera
- Connectivity
- Battery
Once these 5 factors have been rated, we introduce the price variable. This means that any two devices with the same ratings get a different Ki score for quality vs price.
Even a device objectively worse than another may have a higher Ki score if it has a better price.
The Ki varies as time goes by. As new devices with better specifications enter the market the Ki score of older devices will go down, always being compensated of their decrease in price.
