  • Honor 400 Pro – A Surprisingly Strong Contender in the High Midrange Segment

I decided to keep the Honor 400 Pro instead of going for the Pixel 9, and honestly... I’m genuinely surprised. Surprised by how close this midrange device comes to true flagship performance.

This phone is what you'd call a flagship killer – or at least one of the most capable in its class.

    Build Quality & Design:
The construction is solid, the materials feel premium, and it’s impressively lightweight and slim. It feels high-end in the hand and is comfortable to use.

    Performance:
I installed 229 apps – everything went lightning fast, with absolutely no difference compared to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Even banking apps and digital wallets worked flawlessly, which honestly shocked me after my buggy experience with Xiaomi.

    Display & Sound:
The screen is bright, vivid, and definitely on flagship level. The sound is also surprisingly good.

    Camera:
The cameras are great overall. The selfie camera, in particular, is excellent – one of the best in its class. While the main sensor does a solid job, the zoom, ultrawide, and night shots are just average compared to other high-midrange phones.

    Battery:
Absolute beast. It lasts easily 30 hours with Always-On Display active for at least 7 hours. Way above expectations, especially for such a slim phone. Solid, solid battery performance.

    Software – MagicOS:
After using Xiaomi’s HyperOS, I actually started to appreciate MagicOS more. It feels smoother, more stable, and just better put together – at least in this case. For me, it works better than expected, even though I hadn’t used any Honor phone in a long time.

    Pros
    • Premium build, slim and lightweight
    • Fast and fluid performance, no lags or bugs
    • Excellent battery life (30h+ with 7h AOD)
    • Bright, vibrant display
    • Surprisingly good speakers
    • Excellent selfie camera
    Cons
    • No notification history/log feature
    • Face ID for unlocking the phone, not for Apps

It's the best in the 400 series

This phone is impressive in terms of camera, performance, sound, aesthetics, durability, and screen brightness—the 5000 nits are what impressed me most. In terms of performance, I've tested several demanding games like Fortnite, Cars X Street, Genshin Impact, Urban Heat, etc., and it handles them all flawlessly. What also caught my attention is that even after playing for several minutes, it doesn't overheat at all, which is fantastic. And the camera? It's second to none, truly unique in that regard. The sound has good bass, and at medium volume, when you turn it up all the way, the bass diminishes and the treble tends to boost, but for me, it's fine. To find a phone with perfect sound, it should at least have 32-bit color, but that's not my case. I'm happy with this phone. The battery life is quite good, even while gaming or watching videos. The water resistance is excellent—I'd say 5 stars.

    A highly recommended entry-level high-end range

It's great because it's a fantastic entry-level high-end phone. Its power is excellent with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and its cameras are very good. The phone is quite good overall; its screen is large and very good, with polished AMOLED technology. Its Magic OS 10 or 9 operating system is very good, runs quite smoothly, and is also very attractive and AI-powered. The battery is good; in my case, I have the 6000 mAh version, and it lasts a day with heavy use, which is great. The only downsides are the audio, which isn't the best, and the fact that it's made of plastic, but it feels good. Other than that, everything is perfect.

It's an amazing phone, it was updated to Android 16 and MagicOS 10, I was quite surprised by this phone, almost everything is great...

The design is quite nice, and well, where I live, it's not so conspicuous to criminals, which is another point. It's a very fast operating system. Warzone runs extremely smoothly on high graphics settings; sometimes there are slight dips due to the phone overheating, but it's still very playable. PUBG is just as smooth in HDR, as is R6 Siege, Fortnite, and RDR. The downside is that when the graphics are pushed to their limits, the FPS drops, which is why I prefer to play all games on low settings, and it runs at over 120 FPS. The internet is also excellent. I've found some flaws in certain games, like in Tomb Raider, where it doesn't respond very well to touch inputs, and that's what annoys and disappoints me a bit. And well, above all else, sometimes games aren't well optimized for certain devices, and that's not the phone's fault but the game's. But above all, the camera—videos, photos—is also excellent. It's the first phone I've bought with my savings because I also bought my wife an iPhone 17. I don't have to... There's not much more to say about this phone. Its charging is incredibly fast and efficient, and it also depends on how well you take care of it. It's at 100% when I unplug it, and I don't let the battery drop below 20%. The battery lasts me a long time, even without playing games or anything. I tested it, and it lasted four days without daily use, and even then, I still had 17% battery remaining. It only drains faster when I'm playing games, but not by much. The only downside is how much it overheats when I increase the graphics settings. When I play RDR for 15 minutes, it seems like it's going to explode. Otherwise, it's great...

    Good hardware, bad software

I upgraded from a OnePlus 10T (I previously owned the 6T and 8T), and the difference has been less than I expected. I was interested in the wireless charging, CPU performance, and screen quality, and I have no complaints about any of those. However, the Android operating system it comes with is flawed and has some issues I don't like. For example, the icon size can't be increased. If you have presbyopia, you're out of luck. In the end, I had to install Nova Launcher, which I had a license for before using OnePlus phones. But with Nova, the recent apps gesture doesn't work, so you're still stuck. There's also a general lack of fluidity. Sometimes you have to tap it several times for it to show recent apps, or it stops showing Google News. And it's not a hardware problem; it's the operating system that isn't optimized. EDIT: I ended up returning the Honor 400 Pro to AliExpress (surprisingly, they accepted the return due to a change of mind). There have been two problems I haven't been able to eliminate. One is the "AI Writing" feature, which replaces the copy and paste options and persists even after disabling it. The other, even worse problem, is the occasional freeze of several seconds when typing in work profile apps, even with the default MS SwiftKey keyboard (which I hate).

This computer is very good for the price; it has a good processor, and Magic OS never has bugs and works better than 90% of others.

I really like this device. It's fluid, fast, has a good camera, and offers great day-to-day performance. The FPS doesn't drop in games, and the camera really surprised me, making it an excellent all-around device.

What is a Ki score?
Ki is an automatic score based on the specifications and prices of devices. It is calculated using over 200 variables to rank smartphones, tablets and other devices from best to worst.
How do we calculate the Ki?

In this case, to determine the score we evaluate 5 general aspects:

  • Design and screen
  • Hardware and performance
  • Camera
  • Connectivity
  • Battery

Once these 5 factors have been rated, we introduce the price variable. This means that any two devices with the same ratings get a different Ki score for quality vs price.

Even a device objectively worse than another may have a higher Ki score if it has a better price.

Does the Ki score change?

The Ki varies as time goes by. As new devices with better specifications enter the market the Ki score of older devices will go down, always being compensated of their decrease in price.
