The Google Pixel 8 is the latest mid-range smartphone from the tech giant Google. It features a 6.2-inch OLED screen with a high resolution of 1080 x 2400 (FHD+) and fast refresh rate of 120 Hz, plus a maximum brightness of 1400 cd/m² and 1000000:1 contrast ratio for enhanced picture quality. Google also included HDR10+ support on the Pixel 8. Additionally, the device boasts stereo speakers and a noise-canceling microphone for improved audio quality. As for its build, the Pixel 8 is made from an aluminium alloy chassis that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, giving it an impressive usable surface of 86.7%.

Under the hood, the Google Pixel 8 is powered by the company's own Tensor G3 processor, which is built on the 4nm process technology for optimal performance. The device is also equipped with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS storage, depending on the user's preference. As for benchmark performance, the Pixel 8 scored 1105000 on AnTuTu v10. Security-wise, the device comes with a fingerprint scanner embedded into the display. Other features include an advanced cooling system and multiple wireless features, such as Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, WiFi 6 (802.11ax), and eSIM support.

In terms of photography, the Google Pixel 8 sports a dual-camera setup, consisting of a standard 50.0MP Samsung GNV camera with a large 1.2 pixel size and an f/1.69 aperture, plus a 12MP ultra-wide angle + macro lens with an f/2.2 aperture and 0.8 pixel size. For selfies, the device is fitted with a 10.5MP CMOS front-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture and larger 1.2 pixel size. Both cameras are equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS). The Pixel 8 also supports 4K video recording.

In terms of battery, the Pixel 8 has a large 4575mAh capacity with 27W fast charging support. The device also supports wireless charging and reverse charging via the VPN by Google One app.

Overall, the Google Pixel 8 is a great mid-range smartphone with excellent cameras, beautiful display, and powerful processor. However, some users may find that the lack of a telephoto lens and lack of FM radio can be a setback. Additionally, the device's 27W charging speed is a bit slow compared to other devices in the same range. The Google Pixel 8 Pro is the next model up in the series, offering faster charging speeds and a telephoto lens.

    A satisfactory experience

The price is a good point and a bad point at the same time, since it is much more accessible than other devices in the range, however it is also bad due to the fact that it devalues a lot in a short time, I recommend it if you want it as a phone personal and you do not plan to sell it or exchange it for another device in the future. The camera is excellent, the battery is quite decent even with the always on display always on and 120Hz activated. The design is quite unique, the construction materials in the hand feel quite premium although if it turns out to be like other Samsung or iPhone devices, another positive point is the large number of system updates it has, the processor is very optimized for activities from day to day and some very heavy activities, however, it is far behind in raw power.

What is a Ki score?
Ki is an automatic score based on the specifications and prices of devices. It is calculated using over 200 variables to rank smartphones, tablets and other devices from best to worst.
How do we calculate the Ki?

In this case, to determine the score we evaluate 5 general aspects:

  • Design and screen
  • Hardware and performance
  • Camera
  • Connectivity
  • Battery

Once these 5 factors have been rated, we introduce the price variable. This means that any two devices with the same ratings get a different Ki score for quality vs price.

Even a device objectively worse than another may have a higher Ki score if it has a better price.

Does the Ki score change?

The Ki varies as time goes by. As new devices with better specifications enter the market the Ki score of older devices will go down, always being compensated of their decrease in price.
