- Best giant your money can buy
This last of the greats is a pinacle of LG design and, LG being LG, it is somewhat flawed too. It feels so premium that even in 2024 it beats many rivals to dust. Built like a tank, it weighs as one too and has huge bezels. Even with rather big hands it is tough to handle onehandedly. The display is surprisingly pleasant to look at, has HDR support, just not on Netflix!!! 8K and HDR10+ recordings are magnificent unless you are inside and the ambient sound is present. Videos in weak light are terrible as the HDR effect is deliberately turned off in those scenarios: you will be looking at washed out greenery if under artificial lighting if you dear to enable HDR10+. So much worse than any LG that came before it. Don't even bother shooting 8K in such conditions even thought it is certainly possible using manual video camera by ramping up the ISO: the gain artifacts are just hideous! And don't let me start speaking about sound recording.. It is such a disappointment as the mics are one of the best ever put on a mobile. You cannot disable the noise filtering which distorts virtually everything that is being captured!! On the flipside, shooting in favourable lighting conditions rewards you in crazy detailed and colourful image which can be tweaked to your liking in manual video mode. The best use from shooting in 8K is the ability to zoom in without losing resolution as in HDR10 mode the camera is notoriously unable to zoom without hurting the resolution on all LG models... It can be frustrating to always remember to switch back to 8K mode as each time you quit the app, the resolution defaults to 1080p! Just why, LG?? And LG never fixed any issues nor made any improvements with updates. You are better off sticking with Android 11 or so, as there is nothing serious to be gained. Its a pity that a zoom camera had to be removed. The new wideangle sensor is poor but selfie camera is outstanding! Yes, you MUST use a Gcam with Arcide or similar lib to unlock and shoot RAW!!
