- Camera & Sound Focus
I bought this phone for the camera performance, the video quality and sound quality. All are excellent! When I hold the phone in different ways I never block the lower speaker like on most down firing phones. The sound is better to my ears than Apple's newest phones, plus they are both forward firing with gives me good stereo separation. If you watch a lot of online content it makes a difference. About the screens with a punch whole, who wants it? Very distracting and very happy that Sony got it right and made the bezels small it makes no difference. The AI tracking and stabilization is a handy feature to have that most other phones don't. The software experience is pure Google with Facebook & LinkedIn thrown in (can be disabled, not removed). Good carrier support in Canada without any 5G issues. Battery life is very good with a full days use drains down to 40% on most days with 120Hz refresh rate turned on. Coming from an older OnePlus phone that also had Sony Sensors in it, I am impressed with Xperia's eye focus that is super sharp that I can see myself in the apple of their eye. Focus makes it for me, if a camera phone cannot focus well it isn't worth it, and this phone delivers. You can always adjust lighting later, focus is much more difficult. Camera app is similar the Sony Alpha camera if not the same. I'm not a gamer so I'll leave that out of the discussion. Phone prices on grey market have been coming down since the phone was first released so cost is the main factor where Sony makes up the difference on the sensor and software side. Would I buy this phone again if I had the choice? Yes without hesitation as a premium phone. I get so many compliments on the photos I take.

The camera is now easier to use. The addition of AI doesn't strike me as a major improvement, but the photos are still incredibly sharp compared to the competition's fully automated cameras. The 1TB version is absolutely stunning in gold. It's smooth and responsive, like all Xperia phones. The camera button is perfect, and the headphone jack is a definite plus. However, the battery life is a bit short if you use it for gaming, which I don't. The flash isn't the brightest I've seen on a smartphone. The screen delivers Sony-quality image quality, and the speaker sound is excellent, as always.
