About this comparison

Comparing the Google Pixel 7 and Samsung Galaxy S22 - Two High-End Smartphones

As the battle to create increasingly advanced and capable smartphones continues, tech giants like Google and Samsung are fighting to stand out with the latest feature-packed devices. The Google Pixel 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S22, both due for release in 2022, are two of the most impressive smartphones on the market. Let’s take a look at how these two flagship devices compare in terms of design, hardware, and camera capabilities.

Design & Materials

The Pixel 7 and the Galaxy S22 both feature modern, edge-to-edge designs with minimal bezels and no notch. They also each feature an aluminium alloy frame and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the back. However, the Galaxy S22 takes it a step further with its use of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+.

When it comes to the display, the Pixel 7 features a 6.3 inch Oled screen with a resolution of 1080x2400 (FHD+) and a refresh rate of 90Hz, while the Galaxy S22 features a slightly bigger 6.1 inch AMOLEDat 1080x2340 (FHD+) with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both devices also support HDR10+ and have high-contrast ratios. The usable surface of each device is also impressive, with the Pixel 7 boasting 83.7% and the Galaxy S22 an impressive 88.2%.

Hardware

Both devices are powered by top-of-the-line processors. The Pixel 7 runs on Google’s custom Tensor 2 which is built on a 5nm architecture, while the Galaxy S22 features Samsung’s Exynos 2200 which is built on 4nm architecture. Both devices come with 8GB of RAM, however, the Galaxy S22 has an edge with its larger storage options — 128GB and 256GB compared to the Pixel 7’s 128GB and 256GB offerings. When it comes to AnTuTu scores, the Pixel 7 scores a respectable 768335 while the Galaxy S22 scores an even more impressive 889845.

Camera

In terms of cameras, both devices feature dual cameras on the front, with the Pixel 7 featuring a Samsung GN1 primary sensor for 50Mpx and f/1.85 and a Sony IMX381 Exmor RS secondary sensor for 12Mpx and f/2.2. On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 steps it up with a triple camera setup including a Samsung GN5 primary sensor for 50Mpx and f/1.8, a Sony IMX713 secondary sensor for 12MPx and f/2.2, and a Sony IMX772 telephoto lens for 12MPx and f/2.4.

Both devices also have powerful front-facing cameras with the Pixel 7 equipped with a Samsung S5K3J1 sensor for 10.8Mpx and f/2.2, while the Galaxy S22 has a 10Mpx selfie shooter with f/2.2 and 1.220 pixel size. Other features such as optical stabilization (OIS) and 4K and 8K video recording are included in both phones.

Connectivity & Battery

The Pixel 7 and Galaxy S22 both feature Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, WiFi 6 (802.11ax), eSIM and Dual SIM capabilities. Both devices also support fast charging and wireless charging and the Pixel 7 has the added advantage of reverse charging. The Pixel 7’s battery capacity is 4355mAh while the Galaxy S22 has a 3700mAh battery.

Conclusion

Overall, when it comes to the Google Pixel 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S22, there is no clear winner. Both devices offer impressive design, hardware, and camera capabilities and it ultimately comes down to personal preference. However, if we had to pick one, we’d give the edge to the Galaxy S22 due to its larger storage options and powerful triple camera setup.
