Introducing the Motorola Moto G42: the mid-range smartphone of your dreams

The Motorola Moto G42 is the latest mid-range smartphone from Motorola - and it's a real gem. Released in June 2022, the Moto G42 promises to deliver exceptional performance at an affordable price. It sports a 6.40 inch OLED screen with full HD+ resolution and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience. To top it off, the phone has an 83.5% usable surface for a sleek and modern look.

Under the hood, the G42 runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 680 (SM6225) processor, which is based on a 6nm architecture for superior energy efficiency. It comes with either 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a whopping 128GB of internal storage (or 64GB if you prefer). An external microSD card slot allows you to expand the storage even further.

When it comes to photography, the Moto G42 is packed with features. The triple camera setup includes a 50.0Mpx standard Samsung S5KJN1 lens with f/1.8 aperture and 0.640 pixel size, an 8.0Mpx wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2.0Mpx macro lens with f/2.4 aperture. Also included is an ultra-wide angle lens with 118° field of view and 8x digital zoom. On the front, the G42 sports a 16.0Mpx selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture.

In terms of connectivity, the G42 supports Bluetooth 5.0, dual SIM, NFC, and an audio jack. And to power it all, the phone boasts a generous 5000mAh battery with 20.0W fast charging.

The Motorola Moto G42 is the perfect combination of high performance and affordability. Its sleek design, powerful processor, generous RAM and storage options, impressive triple camera setup, and plenty of connectivity and battery life make the Moto G42 a great choice for those looking for a mid-range phone.

It'll only take a minute, you'll help people decide.

Let me sum it up for you

The general sentiment among Kimovil users is that this is a mid-range phone with an acceptable price-quality ratio for non-demanding use. Many consider it "sufficient" or "good" for its price range. However, there's a significant number of negative reviews pointing to poor aging, performance, and software issues, even going as far as calling it "terrible".

  • Is enough for work

Is enough for work. When I say this, I didn't knew what I was looking for with this phone, once I had it, everything was alright but then, the phone started restarting itself, lagging out, kicking me out of apps.

the photo quality in so many apps is so bad, so bad that takes between 3-8 attempts to get a visible photo.

Gaming, the screen does looks great but, when it comes to shooters and active tapping games, it's the worst, takes between 0.5-1.00 seconds to respond and I've tried to do many things to Fix it, nothing has worked yet.

the only good thing about my experience with the phone is that it runs google, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and communication apps just good, with good I mean as long as you don't put much images, long texts and files into it, it works just enough to be good.

The wifi kicks me out every once in a while, even when data is on, once or more times in a day I'm stranded with no connection.

    Overall, do not get it.

It hasn't updated in a while too.

A phone that throws up a "system UI not responding" message all the time and has terrible lag in games; the camera is so-so.

What is a Ki score?
Ki is an automatic score based on the specifications and prices of devices. It is calculated using over 200 variables to rank smartphones, tablets and other devices from best to worst.
How do we calculate the Ki?

In this case, to determine the score we evaluate 5 general aspects:

  • Design and screen
  • Hardware and performance
  • Camera
  • Connectivity
  • Battery

Once these 5 factors have been rated, we introduce the price variable. This means that any two devices with the same ratings get a different Ki score for quality vs price.

Even a device objectively worse than another may have a higher Ki score if it has a better price.

Does the Ki score change?

The Ki varies as time goes by. As new devices with better specifications enter the market the Ki score of older devices will go down, always being compensated of their decrease in price.
